Stub ends are made through a stamping process. They are manufactured based on the nature of the deformation elongations or compression. A stub end is a pipe fitting used in place of a welded flange where the use of a rotating back up flange is needed. They are also called lap joints and vanstone flared laps.

The main factor that affects the margin flanging coefficient is the plasticity (or ductility) of materials. The larger the material elongation δ, strain hardening exponent and anisotropy coefficient, the less the margin flanging coefficient is, which better facilitates the flanging process. The greater the margin flanging coefficient is, the lower the performance of the stub end.
